Celebrating Five Years of GSLA

On September 23, 2019, I hit send on an email announcing the launch of Griffin Strategic Law Advisors.  I felt like I used to before a major track race—exhilarated, nervous, and trying not to think too hard about the outcome. 

Five years later, I’m enjoying the race immensely. I work with remarkable clients across the country, ranging from tech start-ups to one of the largest companies in the world. Every day, I collaborate with smart, insightful leaders and entrepreneurs who are doing incredible work in the transportation, nonprofit, and for-profit business spaces.

Over the past five years, I have:

• Advised transportation companies on regulatory compliance and enforcement actions;

• Obtained a regulatory exemption for a start-up transportation client;

• Served as an expert witness in a transportation litigation matter and as independent special legal counsel in a nonprofit indemnification dispute;

• Trained numerous nonprofits and their boards on effective governance;

• Counseled nonprofits on compliance and operational matters;

• Conducted an internal investigation for a global nonprofit; and

• Served as general counsel for businesses with complex legal needs.

Having my own business, and working with so many of you, has been profoundly rewarding.  It has also allowed me to reach back to those who travel behind me and to give back to the communities that have shaped me.  I continue to teach and mentor law students—many of whom are first-generation—at my alma mater, Northwestern Law School. I helped establish and now serve on the board of an elementary school that is shaping compassionate and curious little minds. And I am on the board of a regional theater company that tells thought-provoking and captivating stories that, I believe, help us better understand each other.
