Alais Griffin Launches Griffin Strategic Law Advisors
Seasoned attorney brings in-house counsel, Obama administration, and law firm experience
to nonprofits, trade associations, and small businesses.
Attorney Alais Griffin has launched Griffin Strategic Law Advisors, a Chicago-based law firm offering sophisticated, cost-effective legal and strategic advice to clients nationwide.
“Nonprofits, trade associations, startups, and small businesses are similar in many ways. They face a wide range of legal issues and have limited resources to deal with them. But that doesn’t mean they have to handle those challenges alone,” said Griffin.
“I founded Griffin Strategic Law Advisors to be the sophisticated, common-sense, and cost-effective legal and risk management partner these entities need to manage their legal matters so they can focus on their goals and missions. Thanks to my experience working in-house and in the Obama administration, I’ve seen these issues from the inside and am ideally suited to help clients mitigate risk today so they can minimize their legal concerns in the future.”
Griffin’s firm assists clients in a number of key areas, including:
General counsel services, including contracts, HR/employment, policies and procedures, risk assessments, regulatory compliance, and outside counsel management
Federal regulatory, compliance, and administrative law, including public policy assistance
Board and governance policies, training, and implementation of best practices
Griffin’s diverse experience includes working in the Obama administration as Counselor to the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Transportation and as Chief Counsel for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, working regularly on legislative, regulatory, and enforcement matters with the White House, Congress, and the Department of Justice.
Griffin also served for five years as pro bono outside counsel and then as General Counsel for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. In that role, she oversaw all legal issues related to federal grants, compliance, intellectual property, cybersecurity, governance, HR and employment, youth protection, contracts, litigation, and ethics.
Griffin’s private-sector legal and governance experience includes tenures at leading global law firms in New York City, Chicago, and Washington, DC, where she counseled domestic and international clients on federal civil and criminal matters, commercial, products liability, securities litigation, internal investigations, and regulatory and compliance matters.
Griffin graduated cum laude from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif, an honor society for law students who graduate in the top 10% of their class. She received her B.A. in general studies, cum laude, from Harvard University. After law school, she clerked for Judge Harry D. Leinenweber of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
